Match report by Austin Brady

Mellor continue to impress.

On a warm sunny (but windy!) spring morning Mellor took on the challenge of Stockport for their 4th meeting this season. After a scrappy opening few minutes, Josh Pink picked the ball up in his own half and decided to go on one of his long runs beating a number of defenders before a clinical finish to put Mellor 1 up. Within a couple of minutes Stockport were level though and then should have gone ahead but for a stunning diving stop from Will which must rank as one of his best ever. After that Mellor started to get on top and similar to the first goal, Drew this time went on a long mazy run beating player after player until he had sight of goal and calmly scored to put Mellor 2-1 up.

After this goal Mellor started to play with more shape and their passing became slicker leading to further goals to take a 4-1 1st qtr lead. In the 2nd qtr the defensive unit of Mellor looked very solid and kept Stockport's chances to a minimum, certainly not clear cut enough to trouble Will who made a few (for him) comfortable saves. Further Mellor goals were scored to take a deserved 7-1 half time lead with some great interchanges between Joe Hussey, Josh Poke, Josh Pink and Drew leading to further quality team goals.

In the second half, Mellor's dominance continued with Josh Haining, Joe Kynastan and Ben Tipping breaking up Stockport's attacks and then feeding the Mellor midfield who were now finding lots of space and making the most if it with accurate and fast passing to increase their advantage. Mellor were hungry for more goals and a Tom Brady check won the ball near the Stockport goal to give Eddie Jenkins an opportunity which he took very well for the first of his two goals. Rory and Sam were also seeing more of the possession and competing well to keep Stockport under pressure. Sam had some great runs and deserved a goal for all his efforts but today the ball just wouldn't go in. Further goals were scored, the most inventive being that from Josh Poke who's over the shoulder shot helped to make it a 17-1 overall win to Mellor. Another impressive team performance.

Goals -Josh Pink (4), Drew Bickerton (4), Josh Poke (4), Joe Hussey (3) and Eddie Jenkins (2). Assists - Josh Pink (3), Joe Hussey (3), Tom Brady (2) plus others from Drew, Ben M, Josh Poke. Saves - 8
