Extra focus was evident from the off as this was a cup game that was not going to be taken lightly. Mellor won the face off and within 30 seconds were ahead. The first quarter was one of a copious domination of possession as the midfield of Dan J, Josh SP, Josh P, Drew B and Sam G won the battle and provided fantastic service to the forwards Joe H, Tom B and Nick H. Mellor played some great Lacrosse with accurate and quick passing and excellent finishing to end the first quarter 12-0 in the lead. The defence of Ben M, Josh H, Ben T, with Will M in goal, were not really tested but when they were they quickly turned over the ball as they secured Mellor possession. The second quarter followed the same pattern with the score at half time moving to 19-0 which saw numerous superb team goals.

Timperley showed great spirit throughout the match and their defence and keeper, in particular, kept going and put everything into the game so that only a further 3 goals were added in the third quarter which ended 22-0 to Mellor. With Will in goal feeling a little under utilised in the match, he could be forgiven for singing the classic 80's song "Don't you want me baby" after seeing very little action (possibly one half save made in the first 3 quarters). This led to a tactical reshuffle that saw the defence and attack swap places (a move that could provide headaches for future selection?) as a further 10 goals were scored in the final quarter which led to an overall 32-0 victory and remarkably every player, including Will, got on the scoresheet.

While tougher tests will lie ahead, it is a step closer to Rochdale.
