Timperley were to provide a tough test for the U12's today, especially on their favoured artificial playing surface.
Mellor started brightly with Josh SP and his "wing men" dominating the midfield battles, but Timperley punished Mellor's poor finishing to go into a 2-0 lead, this spurred the boys into action, and the attack produced some fluid lacrosse to finish the first quarter 2-3 up.
The second quarter produced some of Mellor's finest play with Captain Joe Hussey and Daniel Jones linking up with two superb goals, but lackadaisical defending cost Mellor another two goals and the first half finished with Mellor leading 4-6.
Mellor conceded some sloppy goals in the third quarter, with the defence slow to react to a fast breaking Timperley team, this could have been more if not for some fine saves from stand in Goalkeeper Ben Tipping, again poor finishing meant Timperley could close the gap to
7-8 to set up a tense final quarter.
A quick couple of goals from Drew Bickerton and Joe Hussey settled the nerves, and with a further three more added, the boys finally ran out
7-13 winners.
Daniel Jones (4 assists), Joe Hussey (3 assists), and Drew Bickerton finished with three goals a piece, ably assisted by Nick Hughes with two goals and Tom Brady and Josh SP (1 assist) one goal each.
Overall it was a good display against solid opposition bearing in mind we were missing two long sticks, with the new recruits Tom Brady, Rufus Lancaster, and Daniel Pawsey not afraid to get stuck in.
