Mellor U12’s fought back to record a well earned win against an organised Stockport side despite a slow start as we slipped 2 – 1 behind in the 1st quarter.

Stockport, fielding some strong players throughout, continued to press as the boys settled into the game. With some good hold up play from Nick up front, testing shots from Huss and some good recovery checks from Daniel and the boys in midfield they slowly started to dominate in Quarter 2.

Our midfield quickly connected their passes and, with Josh SP starting to win face offs, Mellor reached half time with a slender 4 – 3 lead despite Drew denting the post with a long range effort.

Mellor started to stamp their authority in midfield taking control of the ball and Josh Poke shone in his new role in the middle of the field. On a large pitch Mellor tested the Stockport keeper from range but gradually increased their lead with some swift passing between the boys up front.

Will stood firm in goal and had to be on his guard as Stockport’s playmaker continued to charge through our defence although our back line toughed it out with Stockport’s large players. Our back 4 stayed organised and focussed as the team quickly turned defence into attack as the game worn on. Eddie, Tom and Rufus worked well up front with Joe and they settled in well in one of their 1st away games of the year.

Mellor finished quarter 3 with a 6 – 3 lead and set about the final period with some stern checking. Confidence grew and as legs became weary Drew’s tireless running through the middle saw him place another dent in the goal before firing a well earned goal.

The final whistle saw Mellor record a 10 – 3 win against one of the seasons favourites. Key Stats:
