Today saw the start of the new season for Mellors 1st team against a young Brooklands team who's squad include a number of players who have dominated the England U19 scene for the past few years. With a superb face off specialist Brooklands started well taking command in the first quarter taking an early 2-1 lead. Mellor didn't panic and began to take control with some quick movement of the ball with quality goals from our attack resulting in a first half 8-4 lead. Mellor suffered a nervy start to the 3rd quarter which saw Brooklands claw back to 9-7 but they failed to take advantage of numerous man up opportunities and Mellor extended their lead and hung on to win 11-8.
It was great to see our new overseas recruits Alex Naftal in goal, Patrick Timothee in attack and Austin Holgate in midfield settling in well and things are definitely looking promising for the season ahead. A special mention for outstanding performances from Alex Naftal in goal who kept us in the game early on, Cameron Major for excellent clearing and great lax IQ showing fantastic awareness during the game along with Tim Roche, Dan Watson and Will Sugden for taking their chances in front of goal. Lastly our new coach Alex Ehegartner who's passion for the game is contagious and is spreading through this team. onwards to our next game home to Rochdale next week :)
