Mellor Show Dominance

Passing the half way point of the u19's league, the Mellor boys were still without a win. Without our usual coach, Tom Hallam stepped up to the mark and offered his expertise in the defence. The game tactics were simple, slow the game down in attack and take our chances accordingly. A simple but often effective strategy

Mellor came out of the blocks with a bang, pure determination won the first face off and after some quick ball movement around the goal, Jake Hutchinson was quick to find Jay Learners effective cut, Learner would place the ball past the Wilmslow keeper putting the Mellor boys ahead in the game. A repeat at the face off handed Mellor possession again, this time Dan Watson would beat his man and find Rory Heydon unmarked who took his chance with ease. Jack Robinson was on fine form, managing to beat his man several times and distribute the ball accordingly. He managed to work himself some space and slot the ball into the bottom corner. first quarter score 3-1 in favour of Mellor

The fight continued at the face with young guns Heydon and Learner looking comfortable in their u19s debut season. Mellor were creating chances left right and centre but at times failed to beat the Wilmslow keeper. Matt Greenwood led the Mellor defence showing dominance in one on one situations, Wilmslow didn't look like scoring. This allowed Mellor to break onto the Wilmslow goal and Robinson would score his second of the game. impatience started to grow in the Wilmslow defensive unit and the Mellor attack took advantage of this Watson beating his man again and putting the ball past the Wilmslow keeper. Will Ramsbottom was his usual energetic self, throwing in cuts all the time. Hutchinson would find him off a well worked move and he would get him self on the score sheet. Half time score 6-1 Mellor

Third quarter Mellor continued to show their dominance at both ends of the field. Wilmslow would try some long range shots but these were no problem for Oliver Robinson. He managed to take the ball with ease and facilitate Mellor attacks. Jake Parker showed his athleticism, carrying the ball in transition and beating his defender numerous times, however he wasn't able to sustain his shot:goal ratio from the day before. Mellor would continue to score some well worked goals giving them the 7 goal advantage at 3 quarter time. 9-2

The final quarter began with Wilmslow finding a surge of energy and three quick fire goals saw them edging back into the game. However their bizarre celebrations were somewhat pointless. The talent in attack showed as Learner was able to score his second of the game and Robinson found the back of the net two more times. For the whole game Wilmslow's attack was no match for the Mellor defence, even when they went two men up. Final score 13-5 in favour of Mellor

A great performance from Mellor who at times played some amazing lacrosse. Stand out performances include Jack Robinson and Matt Greenwood who lead by example at opposite ends of the pitch.

Mellor Scorers: Jack Robinson 4, Dan Watson 4, Jay Learner 2, Will Ramsbottom 2, Rory Heydon 1
