Semi-final loss to Cheadle

Mellor took a mixture of experience and youth to this years Bath 8's which worked well on the day. The team bus left the club at 5.30am Saturday morning which saw some younger players realise that there are two 5.30's in every day.

Arriving in Bath at 9.30 refreshed after the obligatory Mcbreakfast stop it was time to get started. This years tournament saw entries from 25+ teams with lots of Southern and Uni Alumni teams allowing Mellor to play against unknown opposition for most of the day. First up was Spencer who were expected to give the lads a tough start but failed to compete with the fresh young legs of the Mellor team resulting in a 6-1 win for Mellor. Next up were Bath Exiles who again were brushed aside by a dominant Mellor resulting in another win 5-0. The wins kept on coming with next up Milton Keynes going down 11-2. Exeter Uni were next to fall to Mellor and at two thirds through the qualifying rounds Mellor were top.

Next up were local neighbours Heaton Mersey who as expected proved tougher opponents resulting in a 3-3 draw. Last up were Hilcroft who inflicted the first defeat of the day on the lads losing 3-2. Despite the loss Mellor had still qualified and made it into the quarter finals drawn against Spencer for the second time that day. This proved a tougher test than earlier but a late winner from Captain Will Sugden saw us progress through to a semi-final draw against Cheadle. Despite putting up a strong performance Cheadle proved to strong and the day ended with a 2-0 loss.

The obligatory night out in Bath followed with everyone surviving the trip.

All in all a great performance and great build up to the start of the season.
